UPDATED: Redshirt freshman cornerback Marlon Pollard to transfer from UCLA

By Daily Bruin Staff

Aug. 18, 2010 7:43 p.m.

This year, the UCLA football team has a lot of depth and returning experience at the cornerback position. There has been a struggle for playing time behind the starters, Aaron Hester and Sheldon Price, who appear to have separated themselves from the pack.

The Bruins now have one less player battling for reps, because redshirt freshman cornerback Marlon Pollard has announced that he is going to transfer from UCLA, team spokesman Marc Dellins confirmed.

[UPDATED AT 8:13 p.m.: Coach Rick Neuheisel discussed Pollard’s move after Tuesday’s practice.

“Marlon Pollard has decided that he’s going to transfer. The good news about Marlon transferring is that it’s completely amicable. We wanted him to stay, and a number of kids talked to him last night about trying to stay and be a part of the team because he’s such a good young man. But he just thinks that for his chance to play and play a lot of football in college, he needs to move on,” Neuheisel said. “I’m never going to deprive somebody of being happy, so we’re going to grant his release, and we’ll miss him. He’s a great kid.”]

Pollard, who was bothered by a hamstring injury earlier this year, has not yet announced his future destination.
