Underground explosion rattles Glenrock Avenue

By Daily Bruin Staff

Jan. 13, 2010 6:47 p.m.

A large explosion shook Glenrock Avenue around 8:46 p.m. on Wednesday, causing reverberations that could be heard from multiple streets in the North Village.

Many buildings lost power and police at the scene said the sound and vibrations were caused by the explosion of an underground electrical transformer.

No bystanders seem to have been injured and students have been advised to remain indoors as police investigate further. Glenrock Avenue has been closed to pedestrians and vehicles.
