Decade in Review: Albums

The last decade never clearly tied itself to a single musical trend, the way hair metal defined the ’80s or grunge the ’90s ““ if anything, we saw the emergence of hip-hop and its reliance on the hit single. The best albums, then, came not from those artists leading their respective genres, but from those who broke new ground. TV on the Radio perfectly melded art rock with dance music, and John Mayer made the blues cool again, but no one matched the genius of Radiohead, who kicked off the 21st century with a quiet masterpiece.
