SARS epidemic continues to grow

There are now over 2,600 reported cases of Severe Acute
Respiratory Syndrome worldwide, resulting in nearly 100 deaths,
according to the World Health Organization.

China disclosed Monday that the deadly respiratory illness had
struck in more of its provinces than previously reported.

Symptoms of SARS include high fever, body aches, dry cough and
shortness of breath. There is currently no cure for the disease,
although scientists have linked SARS to a new form of coronavirus.
Experts are looking into whether the disease came from animals on
farms or in the wild.

China and Hong Kong have been affected most by SARS with 53 and
23 deaths, respectively. The United States has reported 141 cases
of SARS, resulting in no deaths so far.

Engineers Week at UCLA

From April 14 through April 18, student engineering groups from
the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Sciences will
host the annual Engineers Week at UCLA.

Student groups will show their projects to the public, give
demonstrations, and provide hands-on displays.

Among the demonstrations being showcased are a dual-control
robot, a gas-powered RC car time trial, a balloon launcher contest,
laser tag, an egg-drop competition and an aluminum foil
boat-building contest. On display will be a mini-baja racer and a
concrete canoe.

All events and demonstrations will be held from 11 a.m. to 2
p.m. at the Court of Sciences. For more information, visit
