Crimewatch

An alleged sex offender was taken into custody by the university
police (UCPD) this week after there were reports of his lewd
conduct in the Dance building; after being cited, the man was
transported to West Hollywood Sheriffs Jail.

Two men were charged with assault after attacking an access
monitor at Sproul Hall. Both subjects were under the influence and
transported to West Hollywood Sheriffs Jail. In addition the two
men were charged for trespassing after notice.

This week was productive for burglars, who not only struck
buildings, but cars and lockers too. Two laptops were stolen in
separate instances; a $500 laptop from Campbell Hall, and a
Macintosh model 170 from the Center of Health Sciences worth
$750.

A locker in the Men’s Gym was broken into on Thursday; an
unknown suspect cut the lock and removed $100 in currency. The day
before, credit cards and $180 in currency was taken from Sproul
Hall. Bunche Hall was a location for burglars this week, where a
$300 leather jacket was removed. A television and spectra link
phone were missing from the Center of Health Sciences at a total
loss of $940.

In addition UCLA was plagued with many instances of petty theft
this week, with backpacks and their contents being the prime
targets. One backpack was removed from Covel Commons, and two
wallets and a cellular phone were removed from backpacks in various
locations on campus.

Twenty-nine pills of Zoloft were taken from an outpatient
medicine cabinet in the Neuropsychiatric Institute Nursing Ward. In
another instance narcotics were removed from the Medical Plaza on
Feb 9. A calculator worth $75 was stolen from Anderson School, and
a $600 Black GT lightning Men’s 21-speed bike was taken from the
Wooden bike racks. And two books were taken from a desk in the
Powell Library on Friday.

There were a total of 11 burglaries of motor vehicles this week.
Parking permits were taken from four of those vehicles in Structure
2 Level 5, Structure 8 Level 3, Level 2, and Level 1. In the
remaining seven vehicles, stereo equipment and other property was
the motivation. A radio was taken from a vehicle on Midvale, a CD
changer and two stereos from cars parked on Strathmore, and stereo
equipment was taken from a vehicle on Mentone Lower Garage. Three
vehicles were broken into from the UCLA owned apartment complex on
Venice Boulevard, with a total financial loss of $150.

Six vehicles were reported stolen this week, a white Toyota
Camry was taken from Lot 15, a Green Infinity J30 from Structure 8
Level 1, and a silver 92 Mazda from Structure SV Level 2. Two of
the vehicles were scooters and reported Stolen from Gayley, one a
red ’87 Yamaha and the other a blue Honda. Another red Yamaha was
taken from the Sepulveda Parking Lot.
