Burglary

Sometime between 3:30 p.m. last Monday and 7 p.m. the following
Tuesday, thieves made off with a toolbox and tools. The items,
valued at $500, were taken from a work truck parked at UCLA
Facilities Management.

The Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity was also the site of several
thefts over the past month, police reported.

In the first incident, thieves removed speakers from the front
area of the fraternity house between 2 a.m. on Jan. 12 and 6 p.m.
on Jan. 18. Although the thefts occurred last month, they were not
reported to university police until Jan. 25. Police have no
suspects in the theft of the $300 speakers.

In a second occurrence, thieves again struck Pi Kappa Alpha
sometime between 6 p.m. on Jan. 18 and noon on Jan. 26. According
to police reports, thieves pilfered a $600 television from the
front room of the fraternity.

The last theft at the house occurred between 2 a.m. and 11 p.m.
on Jan. 25. Police report that thieves entered and stole $235 worth
of property from Room 10 of the fraternity.

The Center for Health Sciences was the site of a burglary
between Jan. 26 and Jan.27. Thieves entered Room 63-272 and stole a
printer valued at $12,000.

Cars were stolen from disparate points around campus. A white
1986 Mazda 323 was stolen from level 4 of campus parking structure
3 between 10:45 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Police have not
arrested anyone in connection with the theft.

Attempted Murder

On Sunday, university police arrested Yingshu Xu, a visiting
Chinese national, on charges of attempted murder for allegedly
trying to stab his wife to death.

Xu was arrested at the University Apartments South after police
responded to reports of a woman screaming for help. Xu allegedly
stabbed his wife multiple times all over her body. His wife, whose
name was not released, was taken to the UCLA Medical Center in
critical condition by City Fire Paramedics.

According to hospital reports, the victim was in fair condition
as of press time.

Xu, who was treated for a minor laceration, is now being held at
the main county jail downtown on $1million bail.
