Humanitarian fronts are common ploy of many agencies

Mossad’s actions do not represent beliefs of all Jews
worldwideBy Oscar A. Cabrera

This is in response to Rachel Miller’s letter in The Bruin
("Reality check," April 15) in reference to the Anti-Defamation
League being an Israeli intelligence agency, and to David Altman’s
viewpoint ("Propaganda-driven mystery author twists facts," April
15) to the same effect.

Both of these were written in response to a viewpoint published
in The Bruin on April 10 ("Anti-Defamation League infringes on
civil liberties").

Although the Anti-Defamation League is not a "super-secret spy
organization" in its own right, it has been known to actively and
consistently cooperate with the Mossad (Israeli intelligence). This
is detailed in a work ("The Other Side of Deception") written by an
ex-Mossad katsa, or case officer, by the name of Victor Ostrovsky.
If you choose not to believe me, read the book yourself.

Moreover, the Mossad is not the only organization that has used
civil rights or humanitarian organizations for their own selfish
purposes. For example, the Palestine Liberation Organization,
according to Ostrovsky, has used humanitarian organizations
worldwide to recruit members and transport material.

America’s Central Intelligence Agency used funds and facilities
destined for the Agency for International Development in Latin
America to train, equip and maintain right-wing paramilitary death
squads in El Salvador.

The old Soviet Union’s KGB also used humanitarian organizations
to gather information and recruit new members.

All of these merely represent different facets of a dirty, cruel
and vicious war of wills taking place here and around the globe.
The Mossad is not the only one to engage in this type of behavior.
Virtually every intelligence agency in the world that’s "worth its
salt" uses civil rights and humanitarian fronts to cover up their
activities. After all, how good would these agencies be if they
didn’t hide what they do from the eyes of the world?

Not to belabor the point, but it IS true that the
Anti-Defamation League has been used by the Mossad. Is it true that
all Jews are part of a worldwide conspiracy to take over the world?
No. Is it true that Jews (including members of the league) can
volunteer to help the Mossad? Yes, just like any American can
volunteer to help the CIA or the Federal Bureau of
Intelligence.

Does the Mossad represent the views and politics of all Jews?
Not by a long shot. Has the Anti-Defamation League spied on MEChA
and the Muslim Student Association? I haven’t the faintest clue.
Does the league represent all Jews in America? No.

Of course, if anybody chooses to extend their bad opinion of the
Mossad to those who cooperate with the Mossad, then that’s each
person’s choice. I, for my part, prefer to believe that in
cooperating with the Mossad, the Anti-Defamation League thinks it
is protecting the well-being of the Jewish people in Israel and
around the world. I can hardly fault them for that, especially
after what happened in Europe before and during the World War II,
when the Jews learned a bitter lesson: that they couldn’t count on
anyone but themselves.

If the Mossad takes undue advantage of the sense of unity
arising from this lesson (as it probably has), then that’s on the
Mossad, not on the Anti-Defamation League or the Israeli people or
the Jewish Diaspora.
